On Friday, 2 September 2016, the Asian Institute of Management Alumni of Singapore (AIMAS) hosted its event of the year, with a talk by two distinguished speakers from AIM. They were President/CEO/Dean Dr. Kang Jikyeong and Tet Manalac, winner of the inaugural AIM-Renny Yeo Teaching Excellence Award.
The audience of more than 40 included entrepreneurs, CEOs, BOD members, senior government representatives, academicians and AIM alumni from Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Canada.
The theme of the event was “The Future of Management Education” with the underlying message that AIM is reinventing its future.
AIMAS President Dr Gan Cheong Eng spoke first about his experiences as an AIM MBM graduate in the eighties. He was amazed that they used Case Method instead of the Lecture mode, and AIM had unique electives like Management of Transfer of Technology and Semesters of Agribusiness. He was glad that NUS Business School accredited his application to join the NUS in another department upon his graduation.
Dr. Kang spoke next about AIM. For the benefit of those not familiar with the school, she spoke about its history, governance, students and outstanding alumni, and the various degrees that the School is offering.
Renny Yeo, Vice-President of AIMAS and former President of the Singapore Manufacturers’ Federation, then gave a glowing testimonial about AIM—how the School changed him and prepared him for his successful accomplishments in the business community.
Prof Tet Manalac as the last speaker described the AIM Finance Lab as a novel way of teaching investment management.
Dr Kang gave two plaques, one to AIMAS and another to Renny Yeo for their continued interest in the School. Renny presented a Certificate to Prof. Manalac for the first AIM-Renny Yeo Teaching Excellence Award.
